There was a musical family affair at Folks Middle School recently. Daniel Shui, orchestra director at Folks Middle School, arranged for the orchestra from Memorial High School in Houston (Spring Branch ISD), led by Shui's father to join the Stallion orchestra. Each orchestra played for each other and also played together.

Two savy and energy-conscience custodians were on the job to ensure that maintenance issues at their school were handled properly and quickly, thus saving the District both downtime of equipment and money.

School may be out, but teachers spend much of their summer attending various professional development seminars and workshops and preparing for the coming school year to become even better super heroes and stars in the classroom.

Holmes High School/Business Careers High School has not had a Speech and Debate team for almost three years. With the help of five students and the support of Principal Ada Bohlken, teacher Belinda Medellin revived the program.

This past semester, students at Los Reyes Elementary and Briscoe Middle School have been participating in the “Girls on the Run” after-school program.

Students in the Mexican Folkloric Club at Wanke Elementary School performed at the school’s annual Noche De Fiesta. This is the first year for the club, which is led by Caryn Condello Trevino, Alma DeLeon, and Ginnie Green-Salinas. The students practiced every Friday after school to learn the dances.

Jordan MS started a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) club last school year and has seen tremendous growth in the organization ever since. Only two years old, the club has grown to 260 students and is a part of the National FCA alliance.

Students at Passmore Elementary ES celebrated Earth Day with a tree planting ceremony, donated from the Rivercenter Disney Store.  More than 125 students in the after school ACE Learning Tree program participated with their Youth Leaders and Disney Story Ambassadors.  The students also made peanut butter bird feeders and Earth Day artwork.

Members of the Academic Decathlon team at Warren HS took a field trip to the Institute of Texas Culture to see the Sikhs: Legacy of the Punjab Exhibition. India is the topic of the United States Academic Decathlon curriculum for 2015-16.
